Natural Leavening
Sourdough breads begin with Duchess, the living culture at the heart of Stirred By God, rather than commercial yeast.
Meet the baker behind Stirred By God
I’m Marsha Mixon, the baker behind Stirred By God in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. What began as a personal journey back to real bread became a bakery rooted in faith, patience, traditional sourdough and the joy of serving others.
“Every loaf carries a little of my story, my faith and my heart.” — Marsha
Marsha Mixon • Founder & Baker
Hi, I’m Marsha
My journey into sourdough wasn’t originally about starting a business. It began with something much more personal: I wanted to understand my food better and return to the kind of bread made before convenience and speed became the priority.
After years of following a very restrictive way of eating, I missed bread. Not highly processed bread filled with ingredients I couldn’t pronounce—I missed real bread.
That curiosity led me into traditional sourdough: flour, water, salt, a living culture and time.
I began learning, experimenting, feeding starter, studying fermentation and baking loaf after loaf. Somewhere along the way, what began as a personal pursuit became something I felt called to share.
Stirred By God grew from that journey: a desire to make thoughtful, handcrafted food with recognizable ingredients and to serve people through something as simple and meaningful as bread.
“I didn’t set out simply to sell bread. I fell in love with the process, the patience and the tradition—and I felt called to share it.”Marsha Mixon • Stirred By God
Rediscovering traditional bread
Traditional sourdough taught me that bread does not have to be rushed.
A living starter develops over time. Dough ferments on its own schedule. Flour changes from season to season. Temperature, humidity and patience all matter.
That process forced me to slow down and pay attention. It connected me to a form of baking practiced for generations before commercial yeast made speed the standard.
Today, that same philosophy guides Stirred By God. I choose quality ingredients, use natural sourdough fermentation and allow the dough the time it needs rather than forcing it to meet an industrial production schedule.
For me, real sourdough is not a trend. It is a craft worth preserving.
What guides the bakery
The goal is simple: make food thoughtfully, use ingredients with intention and never forget that someone will be gathering around a table to eat what comes out of this bakery.
Sourdough breads begin with Duchess, the living culture at the heart of Stirred By God, rather than commercial yeast.
Fermentation is allowed to develop naturally because flavor, texture and craftsmanship cannot be rushed.
Premium imported organic flour and carefully selected ingredients form the foundation of the bakery.
Every order is made for a real person, family or gathering. That matters here.
Behind Stirred By God
Real flour, living starter, hands-on work and the imperfect, beautiful character of food made in small batches.
Meet the heart of the bakery
Before a loaf is shaped, scored or baked, it begins with Duchess: the living sourdough culture that gives Stirred By God bread its natural rise and connects the bakery to a much older breadmaking tradition.
The lineage behind Duchess traces to a traditional Welsh sourdough culture believed to have been carefully preserved for generations, with roots said to reach back nearly 900 years.
I have cared for her through years of feedings and countless bakes. She is maintained with premium imported organic flour, and through that daily care she has become uniquely part of Stirred By God.
Duchess is more than an ingredient to me. She represents continuity—flour, water, living culture, patience and a tradition handed forward from one baker to another.
Why the name matters
My faith is woven into the reason this bakery exists.
I believe our gifts are meant to be used in service to others. Baking became one of the ways I could do that—creating something with my hands, sharing it with another person and bringing a little joy to their table.
The name Stirred By God reflects that sense of purpose. It reminds me why I began and how I want to operate: with gratitude, integrity, patience and love for the people I serve.
I do not want this bakery to feel like a factory. I want it to feel personal—because it is.
The mission
Stirred By God exists to bring handcrafted food, traditional baking and genuine care back to the table.

Build products around thoughtfully selected ingredients rather than unnecessary shortcuts and mass-production priorities.
Remember that behind every online order is a person, family, neighbor, celebration or shared meal.
More than bread
Sourdough is where the story began, but Stirred By God has grown into a bakery offering a rotating selection of breads, pastries, sweets and specialty products.
Depending on the current baking schedule, customers may find artisan sourdough loaves, sandwich breads, cinnamon rolls, cookies, scones, whoopie pies and additional seasonal or specialty offerings.
